Arupadai Veedu — the Six Abodes of Murugan

The Arupadai Veedu are the six abodes of Murugan — Kartikeya, the warrior son of Shiva — hallowed since the Sangam-era Tirumurugatruppadai and woven together as a single pilgrimage across the Tamil country. Thiruparankundram near Madurai, where the god wed Deivanai; Thiruchendur on the Bay of Bengal shore, where he vanquished the asura Surapadman; Palani, where he stands as a renunciant upon his hill; Swamimalai near Kumbakonam, where the son became the teacher of his own father; Thiruttani in the north; and Pazhamudircholai amid the hills near Madurai. Together they trace the whole arc of Murugan devotion — birth and marriage, victory, renunciation, and grace.
